September is a special month for BlackTIDES. When we first started, we didnât have a name and this is the month back in 2020 when we came up with it and the rest is history. Shout out to Dr. Brandeis Marshall (adviser) for reminding us not to forget about the social sciences in our mission to make data careers and community more accessible for Black professionals. Thatâs how we ended up serving technology, informatics, data science, epidemiology, and social sciences!!
For our friends in academia, happy back to school activities. Hopefully, youâve gotten accustomed to this semester or quarterâs schedule. Weâre trying to keep up with you and this month we have not one, but TWO events coming your way already. Itâs a Black lady highlights month!
Chemist, Informaticist, Educator, and overall renaissance woman who also designed the image above, Kimberly Deas, is coming back to teach you about KNIME. If youâre interested in no and low-code data analytics and chemical informatics technical options, sign up and hop on with her on September 27, 2023 at 6:00 pm US ET!Â
On the next day, we have our first mentorship event of the season led by the resident data science lead, Lauren Shores. Laurenâs background combines the retail industry with data and youâll learn about different ways to effectively network; a lesson valuable beyond the scope of our data world! Meet Lauren on September 28, 2023 at 6:30 pm US ET.

Community member and long time friend of BlackTIDES, Kelly Hopkins, who just presented a workshop at the Black in Tech Conference AND is speaking at the aforementioned Black Women in Data Summit this month!
Please tell us your wins so we can celebrate you too, and share some bag opportunities via newsletter@blacktidesdata.com with some contact information to spread the wealth.
Stay in touch with us on Twitter and LinkedIn for updates and resource shares throughout the month and tell us what else youâd like to learn with and from the community.
Until next month. Take care of yourselves and happy fall, data fam! â€ïžđ€đ
